The Executive Branch was lead
by two leaders, the consuls. The consuls ruled for only one year. Their
job was to proctor the Senate and to rule the army during wars. Other members
of this branch consisted of tax collecters, mayors, city police, and
other people in power in cities.

The most powerful part of
the legeslative branch was the Senate. This consisted of about 300 land
owning citizens. These men were appointed by the consuls. Their job was
to tell the consuls how much money they could spend and what they could spend
money on.

This branch consisted of six
judges who were elected every two years. Their
job was to decide on punishments for criminals. Their job was just like
the job of the judges in the United States today.
