Who Was Pontius Pilate?
Pontius Pilate was the Governor (Procurator) of Judea from 26-36 AD. He was the
successor to Valerius Gratus. He was the fifth Governor of Judea. He was
a very merciless man. He was married to Claudia Procula. Many Christians
believe that after he had Jesus executed (See Major Events) he became a Christian himself.
He died in 38 AD by throwing himself in the Tiber river. There is a
tomb there to this day to remember him by.
